Ben Scott-Brandt

Ben Scott-Brandt (born Benjamin David Brandt) was born on October 29, 1979 to conservative Christian parents in southern Michigan. He has lived in Grand Rapids since beginning studies at Calvin College in 1997. He has been a father, hairdresser, designer, tape label operator, zinester, musician, and performance artist.

In 1999 Ben founded Bunkbed Nights, an indie folk-rock band with an ever-revolving cast that played around Michigan (and Grand Rapids especially) for seven years. He has also performed with Royal Confusion, Airplanes are Fast, Brachiopod, Night Swarm, Halos For Martyrs, and Ben and Bruno. His current musical project is Ribbons of Song — an intuitive, ambient-folk sound that borrows heavily from his work with Peter J Brant.

Ben also founded Don't Be So Stubborn Tapes & Zines in 2002, mostly as a way to unite his self-released material, but also as a catalyst for under-promoted local musicians to get their material heard and seen. Don't Be So Stubborn has released twenty recordings, including a live recording of The Cautions, an all-girl punk band whose members attended Grand Rapids City High School in 2003.
